Cars

This week was car week here at the house.  I still have a couple of tasks left to do for the cars this week.  If I can get Miss June to hold still for five minutes, I need to change the serpentine belt on her Saturn.   Mine needs a bath and I need to get it inspected.  I put two new tires on it yesterday so I can get this done.

I have a couple of new tools this week too.  One is a replacement for one I lost.  That one would be a 14 mm wrench.  The last time I used a 14 mm wrench was to change the serpentine belt in June's car after having it towed home.  I swear I set the thing on the grass but when I went to get it to put it away, I couldn't find it.

I have a rivet gun, too.  I only tried to use it once.  Notice the word tried.  My front license plate holder fell off someplace so I have a new one and new plates.  Some little cop at Hill chastised me in his "cop voice" that I had to have a front plate.  The thing is held on with plastic rivets.  OK, so I bought a rivet gun that was too small for the chore.  I tried to force it to not be too small.  I'll have to find something to drive out the rivet stem.  I broke the rivet.  The front plate holder is securely fastened with nylon screws and nuts.  I used a metal lockwasher to keep the nuts in place and a nylon flat washer to keep the bumper from rusting there.

I had to "cann" a turn signal light off my Saturn for June's on Tuesday, and a wiper blade because she bought one that was too big.  I changed the O2 sensor on her car as well.  Those things aren't free, are they?  At least it was the one on the front of the car and I got to take a road trip to Malad.  When you reset the car's computer, you have to drive it 150 miles above 55 mph before you can have the emissions test done.  On the way back, I got a rock chip, so I got to make the rock chip repair guy happy that day, too.

Yesterday, the cann bird got repaired.  The turn signal is replaced.  I have new wiper blades on both sides.  New tires, a charged battery, and the Saturn is back on the road.  I haven't driven it since November when the plates expired.  I'm happy to finally have saved enough to get the thing back on the road.  In the long run, it'll be a lot cheaper than buying gas for my truck.

Some of the things I had to buy were pricey; the tools, surprisingly were not.  The wrench was $7.  Rivet gun was $10.  I paid $10 more for a tire than I did for the O2 sensor.  The turn light assy. was $20, which wasn't too bad.  Wiper blades were $10 a piece.  The thing that really surprised me was that the dealer had the license frame holder and with the rivets, I was out the door for less than $12.

I have to purchase one more item for a vehicle while I'm out today.  I lost the gas cap on my truck and I gotta replace it.  I've had a lot on my mind and somehow or other I forgot to put the cap back on (at least I hope that's what happened!).  I still have the factory gas caps someplace but they don't lock.

Well, that's all for me today gang.  I'm fighting temptation today.  I wanna go someplace warm where there's ocean but I can't afford it.  I want to drive to Magna for donuts, and I don't at the same time.  I'm hungry for Popeye's chicken.  That one I may give in on.  A cherry pie is in the future this weekend.

After all, it's a President's Day tradition.
