Really?
Hey gang. Hope you're enjoying this snowy Tuesday in Utah. I spent some of the day today running errands. The Saturn is all road legal and registered. That saves a ton of money from driving Chevron (my Ford F250) every day. I enjoy driving my truck but the car is so much easier on the walletto.
I just kicked on the TV and heard some Republican talking head say one of the stupidest things I've heard on television. He was trying to defend Rick Santorum and the Republicans talking about helping folks. His point is that the Government subsidizes welfare.
Duh.
He also says record numbers of Americans are on "food stamps". Again, Duh!
Has he looked at the unemployment numbers lately? If there were more jobs, more people wouldn't need help. The more jobs, the less unemployment. The more these jobs pay, the less money the Government spends on welfare programs. And where would these folks be without that aid?
Listen, I know there are people that take advantage of the system. I think too that we need to be responsible for our families but we don't live in an agricultural society anymore and instead of pointing the finger at the needy, let's look at why so many are.
400 Americans have more net wealth among them than the bottom 150,000,000 Americans in this country. Our population is somewhere north of 311,000,000 so that's pretty close to half. If folks are upset about welfare, they gotta start being upset about the reason so many people are getting help.
I'm not saying we need to go all "Robin Hood", or redistribute wealth. The 400 have it. Great. They don't need to give it to me or to you. What's needed is for them to reinvest some of that money into the country so the bottom folks can earn a decent living. The bottom need to work hard and do what they can to succeed.
We gotta start recognizing that the fictional character Gordon Gecko was wrong. Greed is not good.
