KABOOM!
The thing with lightning is that the closer you are to the place it hits, the shorter the time between the flash and the thunderclap. When they're about simultaneous, you're pretty close to ground zero.
Such was the case early this morning. There was no sleeping through that! It was pretty spectacular, but then so was the downpour I drove through on the way back home from Salt Lake yesterday afternoon. I hate driving down there. I almost got dead a couple of times. I changed lanes right before the car in front of me in the lane I left locked up its brakes. I almost got dead again, trying to get over to take the airport exit because something bad happened on I 15 North and fortunately, I had just enough time to safely get over to take Legacy home. But courtesy is something you don't often see. Tailgating is something I saw a lot of and if I'd have tapped my brakes, I would've gotten creamed a couple of times. The wet roads didn't help and the hill up from Farmington on US 89 was like a small stream it was raining so hard there.
Anyway, whatever the bolt of lightning hit to take out power to a good part of Ogden this day was close to the house. I saw the flash, heard the crash, and then the lights went out. They came on just a few minutes ago
I had some things I wanted to do today. I wanted to mow the lawn at the church, but it's far to wet to cut and it's looking like rain again soon. I'd really like to mow my lawn but can't for all the crap that's on it. I would've liked to get the last little bit of ick cleaned up off the floor tile in the basement but the power was out. It's just kinda muddy at this point and not hurting much.
I bought new shoes today. I needed them. Mine are pretty much trashed from the week. I also dislocated my left little toe today. I stubbed it. I thought I'd broken it. But when I put my work boots on to go shopping for shoes, I could feel my toe kind of popping this way and that, and then it finally popped back into place. It feels so much better now.
I haven't been up to the garden for a week now and I'm scared to go up there and see what's not been picked. I know there are ripe and overripe tomatoes. I'll go up there in a little while and see what there is to see. I'm sure there are squash. It's just not been on the radar to deal with the garden in the midst of this tragedy.
I haven't even felt like eating much, either. This has just been one nightmare after another, but at least it's finally coming to a close very soon. I have to start the process with the bank to cash the check and get a contractor hired, and order a dumpster to get rid of stuff. Kind of sucks that this is a holiday weekend, but by Tuesday, we'll have everything to them. I was going to fax stuff in and just mail the check, but for what it'll cost me to fax it, I can overnight it all on Tuesday and they'll have it Wednesday. That means by early the following week, we should have things somewhat ready to go.
Well, that's all for this day. Here comes the rain again. Fall came early this year kids. It's gonna be a bad winter. That's a good thing, though. We desperately need the water.
Blessings to you all,
Coop
