not that guy today!
As I drove up the circle the other day, I took a good look at my house and I decided I needed to change a few things.
For far too long, I've been doing just what I needed to, to get by with keeping the lawn mowed and the garbage picked up, for the most part (except the mess in the back yard), but I saw some things I didn't like.
For instance, one of my window screens fell out of the window. Another was coming out of the frame. I had a ladder out back I used to pick apricots. That was in July. My boat had a flat tire and was kind of starting to be a catch-all for this or that thing.
No longer.
The ladder is put away for the evening. Tomorrow I have to get out the 20 footer to fix the other screen. All of the junk is gone. ALL of it. I still have a couple of shelves to clean out and some cupboards to clean out and can do that this weekend. But the non-working appliances, broken and disgusting furniture, and garbage is removed from my yard and from my home!
I was so happy to have that stuff gone that I got ambitious and mowed the grass that had grown up around it. And then I remembered I should really put that ladder away. And then I thought about that boat that doesn't have a flat anymore because I had to move it today.
It's funny how once you find your happy thought that you can make short work of long put-off projects. But now I'm not that guy with all the junk on his lawn, the garbage, the stuff. The Back 40 still could use some love but that will happen with the fall cleanup once the garden freezes. The tarp that I inherited will come into play for the back 40, too. It's big enough to cover a great deal of it and that means with the sun beating down on it all winter, sans snow, a lot of the weed seeds are gonna become sterilized.
Anyway, the boat is parked nicely out of sight in the back backyard under the trees. It's a good spot for it to winter. In the spring, maybe I can take it out. It still runs well. My lawn tractor isn't running so well though, after connecting the mower deck to it. She may need a carb adjustment.
I'm so excited about the basement. The guy has some great ideas and it'll be nice to have it habitable and modern. That's a very big blessing.
And, after a month, my lawn is finally getting a drink of water. The morning dew, surprisingly, has done a good job of keeping it green. Not just greenish. Green.
I'm sure, too, that my neighbors are happy. Now there's only one project left. Getting rid of the rest of the stray pussycats.
