slow motion and part two...

I heard the clunk of a transmission being shifted and then I saw the car roll backward.  the driver's door was ajar just enough to be caught and bent backward by Chevron, which now has some lovely blue scrapes all the way down the side.  I watched in horror as my roommate chased his car, with his young son behind the wheel across the street where its progress was stopped by my neighbor's mugo pine.

It was ugly.

And scary.

The little boy is unharmed.  Shaken but unharmed.  The car, well, the car took the worst of it.  I have fantastic neighbors and I think a handful of freshly dug carrots helped pave the way for good neighbors to be good neighbors.  Chevron is scarred up and thankfully she came equipped with swing lock mirrors or it would have been much, much, much worse.

Me, I'm not mad.  It was an accident and I've caused more than my fair share.  Things happen and  a couple of dents pounded out and some fresh paint and we're good as new. While they're painting the damage,  I'm going to ask how much to touch up the areas of paint where the clear coat is coming off.  Hey, there's already red in the gun, so what the heck.  I might even call Farmers and see if it's too late to pay the $500 deductible from where I ran over the BMW back in 2010.

The whole thing was like watching a movie in slow motion.  The car rolling, the door folding backwards, the car rolling across the street and the whole thing ending in a crunch and dust cloud.  All I could do was stand there in shock.  I was hoping the car would just catch on the truck but there was just enough room for the door to bend backward and scrape the side of Chevron.

All's well that ends well, though.  My roomie will have the use of a car for a couple of weeks, the neighbors were great and I'll haul off the broken branches of their tree tomorrow.  The brakes on Chevron are changed and I sprayed the apple trees today.  I have some dripper hose to run through the garden but that's gonna wait until tomorrow.

Hope y'all are having a blessed day!

Part two of the story today starts at about five this afternoon.  #2 son texts me about the Saturn.  It's leaking coolant.  I had planned on attending a free legal clinic tomorrow to ask a question about my pending divorce.  Instead, I'll probably be on my way home from Salt Lake because I gotta see if I can fix the car for my boy.  I'm very proud of my boy and I'm glad today I got to tell him that.  He's not having a red-letter day today, either.

I'm very blessed.  I mean that.  There are blessings abounding today. I saw the best in people today. I have some hope for humanity again.  We're alive, fed, clothed, and housed today at the farm.   I found a more efficient way to water the farm today, too.  I sprayed the apple trees for worms.  We have lots of apples this year and I'd like to can some up and make some more of that delicious apple butter.  The apricot tree is loaded and it's the middle of June and we have broccoli that's ready to be harvested.
