Sometimes ya gotta go to the specialty store

I inadvertently broke a window in the basement a while ago.  I had to change it today when Tom, who does not belong to me, figured out how to remove the cardboard over it and get outside.  The window prevents the rose bushes from growing inside the house and while the leaves may be gone, most assuredly, the thorns are not.

I've been spring cleaning things around here.  It's not spring yet, but Friday afforded me a nice day to get some things done.  I feel a lot better about how the house looks.  I'm not done.  But I have a great start.  And I also have a couple of cuts on my left hand.

But not from fixing the window.

I went to Home Depot to see if they had glass.  They do, but not my size.  I tried Lowe's next.  The guy's glass cutting tool was not working well.  He broke the first one.  He chipped up the second one and I felt bad for him, so I took it anyway.  The edge was never going to show.  So $6 and I had a piece of glass to fix the window.  And I broke it while installing it.

OK, I know a little shop that does glass, paint, and flooring.  I went there.  Their glass cutter was out on a carpet laying job.  He'd be back later.

So I wound up at the glass shop.  They do, and sell, windows, doors, glass shower surrounds, etc... and they cut glass.

The piece of glass I broke was 3/32" thick.  The one I bought, with no rough edges, was 1/8" thick and was only $8.  They had it cut for me in ten minutes and now, no wildlife, or wild flowers can come in and out the window.  Tommy can't escape from there.

And I didn't cut my fingers on the glass.  I was using a utility knife blade as a scraper on Saturday and somehow cut the tip of my left index finger.  I have a band-aid on it which cushions the blow of me mashing on the keyboard keys.  The e key still sticks, but that finger is still intact.

But the cut finger is the one I use to open the pull-top on the cat food can for Tom and Jerry.  They share a can of wet food a day.  It's the only way I can keep them fed.  They've lost a lot of weight since coming here.

I had to tell you that news to explain that when I used a different finger to open the cat food, I sliced open the pinky finger on my left hand as well.

Only me.

I have a prayer journey story to tell you today, too.  I had a "song in the night" thing last night.  I woke up singing a hymn in the middle of the night.  It's title is Will You Come And Follow Me?--The Summons

Yeah.  Yeah I will.  One thing is for sure, I know I'm not the same guy I was on Saturday, and as one of the lyrics in the song says, "and never be the same?"

Pretty sure God's up to something.
