Old Tyme Radio

I had some fun today.  I put away the regular dust collecting china so the Christmas dust collecting china can have a chance to be seen.  The lights are officially "on"... well they're off by now, but they were on.  I have a few bulbs to change.  Hey, it happens.

At least all the lights on the wreaths on the windows work.  I have two more to put up.  They're bigger and rest around the garage door lights.  I even broke out some of the Christmas records and listened to a tape of Fibber McGee & Molly featuring The Great Gildersleeve.  It was fun.  I like old stuff like that.  The programs were very entertaining and had to be because they were painting pictures with words and sounds,  instead of colors and images.

While taking things out, I found a treasure I didn't even know I had.  I found two Christmas records.  They're part of a collection I think Wendi bought at a thrift store.  They're not glass records but they're close.  They're 10 inch records.  I thought they were albums.  They're not.  They're 78 rpm singles and about as thick as three records from back in the day.  I played them.  I kind of miss music with scratchy needle sounds.  But, I digress, as I'm apt to do.  Back to the subject at hand.

I talk sometimes of listening to Unshackled which is a radio drama about true life stories of how God transforms lives.  I actually know someone whose story was told on the program.  He's the pastor that helped me to understand about listening to God.  I've never heard his story and haven't seen him in over a year so I can't ask him about it.  I do like the program, though.  Last week, in fact I got quite a bit out of two particular episodes.

I had a chance to share that story with someone last week.  It's not a story for the blog, but nonetheless, the nice part of listening to these stories is that God can and does use people who have done lots worse things than I have, and He does transform lives.

In tonight's episode, it was about someone who had lots of problems, took drugs, went to jail, then found Christ, and slipped back into drugs for a brief spell.  Christians do stumble.  It happens to all of us, and I blogged about this a while before.  Nowadays this man is a leader in his church and blessed with a wife and two boys.

You just never know what God has in store for you.

Oh, one more thing, I'd like to start sharing a scripture of the day, at least for a while.  Today I picked out this one:  Proverbs 1:7 (NLT) Fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge.  Only fools despise wisdom and discipline.
