Setting priorities
I got a phone call from one of my friends the other day. After chatting some, we finally got to the purpose of the call. It seems I hadn't been paying enough attention to my fantasy football team and the message came across loud and clear. Participate or you're out of the league!
Fair. But in my defense, I am in fourth place. I meant to do something about my team last Sunday morning but I was so brain-dead from the road trip that I forgot.
Our fantasy league is a bit cutthroat. In fact if you don't finish in the top eight or so, you get demoted out of the league. There used to be a lot of guys that wanted to get into our league. I won it one year, and the next made a very unfortunate draft pick or two and lost badly enough to get kicked out. I got back in on a sympathy pick when someone else dropped out.
I don't see my friends anymore because of my work schedule and the distance between O-town and Salt Lake. I'm a bit of a drag these days, too, I suppose. The little fantasy football league might seem a trivial thing, but in a way, it's something I can do to keep in touch with these guys. With using my cell phone as my only internet connection (slower than dial-up) sometimes it's a challenge to do something like make a roster change (took me an hour to make two player changes and add them to the lineup) or make a comment on the league board, but on a snowy day with the chores all done and some time left before I go to work, it was time well spent.
It's odd to me that I look at things like this through a different view. I guess there is something to this stop and smell the roses thing. I even played with my dogs today. It's nice to have Bucket home and he and the Beagle are having a tussle. It's the little things, I guess.
Hope y'all are having a great Saturday. Church tomorrow. If you're in Ogden, drop by.
