Can I get a Witness?
Phone calls often change lives. I received one from my mother that will take me another step down the path God has put me on. A phone call forever changed my life...no check that... what I did to cause that phone call to happen forever changed my life. I'll get back to the phone call in a minute, but as always I have to tell a story to tell this story.
I had to drive to Salt Lake today to visit the lawsuit attorney. I hope it's the last time. On Saturday, this became a non-issue. It's resolved and will never be mentioned again. I only mention it now to bring closure to the issue for several of you that have followed the blog for a while. How it was resolved, or for that matter, why, doesn't matter to anyone except those involved. Those that need to know, know.
I talk about smoking. This afternoon, on my way to town, I lost my lighter in the truck. I took an exit to find my lighter. After recovering it, I pressed on with my trip, but instead of I-15, I went down the Legacy Highway, which lead me to I-215. I was thinking about what my mother had told me on the phone, which in a way, is an answer to a question I had for God about where my future is going. About 4700 South, I was passed (I was going 75 in the second to left hand lane, typical freeway speed in Utah) by a little black car with a vinyl decal on the back window that said "Witness".
Keep this in mind as you think about the word "Witness". I talk a lot about the random things that happen in my life. I was thinking about something my mom told me and it had to do with my blog. I was on a road I hadn't intended of being on when I left the house, for the stupidest of reasons. And, in the weirdest of places, there was the answer to a question I had from God. The answer was 'Witness'!
No, I haven't gone completely off my nut... I know random is random sometimes, but I had to be there, had to see the word, and have it be on the forefront of my mind at that particular INSTANT in time; and all because I couldn't find my stupid lighter.
When random started happening, I had a feeling that something in my future would involve sharing our story with others to help other people. I wanted some good to come out of all of this and I've mentioned as late as a post or two ago that if I can keep just ONE person from doing the stupid, selfish things I've done in my life, then I've served a purpose. If I can help someone by sharing my story once stupid and selfish already happened, then I've also served a purpose. Maybe "I" is a bad choice of pronouns... maybe 'we' will be a more appropriate one.
What you will read for the rest of the week is a 'witness' to selfishness, stupidity, the high cost of that, and what God's love can do for you when you find forgiveness and salvation through Jesus Christ. I've invited a guest author to join this week to help share and I hope the invitation will be accepted in the spirit it's offered in. I asked the wife to read the blog posts before they're published. If she accepts, you'll be reading what "we" have to witness, not what "I" have to witness and it's my sincere hope she takes the opportunity.
As you read the blog this week, I want you to think very carefully about what you read and take the lessons to heart. Don't dismiss it as "It'll never happen to me". Until it did, until I quit listening and made the worst choice I ever made in my life, I thought so too. Pay attention, learn something, comment if it's useful and helpful. I don't need judgment because I accept full responsibility for my actions. The rest is just telling a story to get a very important point across.
You do have a homework assignment, though. You need to read through my past blogs. Pay very close attention to the one where I talk about letting things go. This will be key to understanding the next post. If you have some extra time and a Bible with a good concordance, reading up on marriage, divorce, adultery, and forgiveness will be helpful. Reading the children's story "Because a Bug Went Ka-Choo" wouldn't hurt, either.
About the phone call. I almost forgot. Someone is going through a tough time right now. My mother told me about this and said she'd recommended my blog to the person for some insight. The next post is for that person specifically and whoever else may be faced with the same dilemma that may read this.
Yours in Christ,
Coop
