The God of the Impossible

Good morning, gang.

On Wednesday, I shared with you the story of the pumpkin.  This kind of picks up where that story left off and I thought it appropriate given the season.

The radio message I referred to on Wednesday concluded on Friday and if you'd like to hear it, google "insight for living".  It's a message about God working the impossible and the theme is taken from where Jesus fed the five thousand with five loaves and two fish.  The message goes on to talk about how God works the impossible in our lives and I can tell you first hand that this is the absolute truth!

Circumstances we find "impossible" are nothing for God.  I believe this and I strongly believe in the power of prayer!  There are too many instances of God working His plan for me not to believe, nor for me to not trust fully in Him.  In His time, in His way, things will work out according to His will.

It was hard for me at first to trust God.  I talked of this before, I think, but it bears repeating today.  I wanted to meddle, to help, to do what I wanted to do.  After a little bit of correction in my thinking, I gave everything to God and what a difference.  I don't meddle anymore.  I just ask where He wants to take me.  I share things when I can, but simply to use my life and the things that are happening in it so that others may see God at work.  I have a friend who I hear from occasionally these days and it's fascinating for me to hear about God working in my friend's life as well.  It's not just me.  God can do anything and He's at work everywhere.  Things I used to take for granted, little things I was too busy to notice, I now understand are a part of His plan and it's awesome to be able to recognize this.  I literally am in awe of how God works.  I always had this picture of him intervening directly and I'm sure sometimes He does.  What amazes me is how He uses little things like other people in our lives.  It's amazing how He can work it so we can be where we need to be to hear Him.

I listened to a radio program last night called "Unshackled".  It's a radio drama based on the lives of people who turn to God, some from some pretty desperate circumstances and unsavory backgrounds.  Last night, the story was about a woman who turned to drugs, prostitution, and ultimately robbery.  She wound up in prison, then was paroled.  Part of her story was that she was invited to a church service on a Wednesday.  She wanted to go but had to work.  When she showed up, (she was a waitress) her employer told her it was a slow night and she didn't have to work if she didn't want to.  So, she went to church and it turned her life in a new direction.  It's little stories like this one that affirm that the random things happening in my life aren't so random!

I think a good metaphor for all of this can be this one:  We allow our children to believe in Santa Claus and go to great lengths to protect that childhood belief as long as we can.  Just think if we put the same effort into believing Christ died for our sins and on the third day, was resurrected from the dead.  Think of how much better our lives would be if we could believe in that one simple truth and live by faith the way the Bible instructs us to.

What impossible thing is happening in your life today?  Can you give it to God and let him solve it for you?  Do you have that kind of faith?  He's there, waiting to hear from you.

As we move into the Christmas season, let's keep in mind the reason we celebrate.  It's the birth of the Son of Man, God's only son, Jesus Christ.  Through him, we find forgiveness of sin, and a path to the Lord God, the God of the impossible!

God bless y'all and thanks for letting me share with you today.

  1. Exactly where in the bible does it say that December 25 was the day he was born?

  2. I don't believe it does. I'm kinda new to this and don't claim to have all the answers. My pastor reads the blog, perhaps he can weigh in on your question. As for me, the exact date doesn't matter. If it did, Easter would be on the same day every year. It's the event itself we celebrate, not the day, wouldn't you agree?

  3. And what event is that?

  5. If you noticed, I deleted a comment. Not because of what I said. There was more to say than what I did and I don't think I had the right words to say what I wanted to in answer to the question asked.

    Here's a link for that answer: http://www.crivoice.org/cyadvent.html

You gotta copy and paste, but it'll explain this much better than I can.

  6. Which leads back to my first question. Where in the bible does it say Christ was born in December?

  7. Asked and answered, but what I'm curious about is this: Just what point are you trying to make?

  8. Not trying to make a point. Just trying to understand what is written in the bible regarding HIS birth.

  9. May I suggest you read Matthew, Chapters 1 & 2; Luke Chapters 1 & 2 to start with? I think the links above pretty well answer why Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the Son of God on December 25th.

I'm just speaking for me personally but I read the article from bible.org linked above this morning and I found it interesting that one of the comments is that the Bible is often challenged but never proven false or wrong. Isn't that interesting? The book has been around for many centuries and it still stands the test of time. I have faith that the Bible is the word of God. I certainly believe in God, believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, died for our sins and was resurrected from the dead on the third day. I accept Him as my Lord and Savior. Because of this, many wonderful things have happened and are happening right now in my life.

If you go to BBNradio.org, they have an on-line Bible study. They're far more equipped to help you understand than I am. The Bible study is free but I'd kindly suggest a donation if you're going to use it.

To Nobody's Fool: I'll pray that God helps you understand what is written about the birth of Jesus.
