This week's theme?
I talk a lot about how my week seems to run in themes. I don't know if it's a theme for the week or just the day but it's been twice today, both random, but the same message.
The message in part is about spreading your wings as a Christian and being willing break the painful chains that hold you to your past. I found this article when I was looking for a bible quote to share with the wife. I knew what the verse said but couldn't remember the verse number, so I googled the words. in the article, the author kind of describes what God does to new believers to reconcile their pasts so they can move forward. It was an interesting read, based in part, upon the verse (Luke 9:62) I was looking for to send Wendi today.
After I read the article and it set me thinking about the path I was on. I wondered if I was missing something. Am I on the right path or is this part of the journey just to be able to let go of the past? I'm certain as I can humanly be I'm where I need to be, but I went to the Lord in prayer and asked Him if I was doing his will or my own. After a quick prayer, I had an errand to run, so I left the house.
I had to go to Zion's Bank today. I had to be in the car, at the time I was to hear part two of the message. On the radio, a different pastor was talking about this very topic, using the very metaphor about an eagle breaking its chains and soaring that the story I read today used. The same message twice in the span of an hour. Random? You bet.(?) Even if it was just purely at random, I think the message was appropriate for where I'm at in my life and I'm glad to be cognizant of it.
After I heard the program* on the radio, I realized the thing I needed to focus on was being able to answer God's calling. I talked about this earlier in the year already. I have much to learn about the Bible, about being a better person, about many things. I do know I'm ready for whatever that journey will bring into my life. As the article I read talked about, I gave my life to Christ. I'm letting God determine my future.
Let's face it, I've made a mess of things. He won't. What He will do if I let him is show me how to be the best Coop I can be and find a way to use me to help spread His word to others. I'm making the choice to let Him show me the way.
My prayer was answered very quickly. Actually, my prayer was answered almost before I prayed it, but I just didn't know it because my silly phone wasn't in the house. It took me a while to get a text message that probably would have kept me from asking in the first place. I didn't see it when it was sent. My phone was in the car so I didn't know the message was there. The message (extremely private) was another part of the answer to my prayer. OK, I'll give you a hint... it has to do with a specific shade of the color blue...
Tomorrow, gang, I'm going to use the blog to talk about how our culture has changed and is changing as we shift from a Christian to more secular society.
Bless you all,
Coop
* the program itself was about finances but contained a brief topic about eagles breaking their chains and you can find it at www.bbnradio.org under the on-demand for today's program "Building Blocks for the Family".

ReplyDeleteMy little bit of random comes from a sign on one of the churches I pass on my way to work in Layton. The topic of their sermon this coming Sunday: Growing is God's Plan. Kinda fits with the article linked in the above story.
