An answer to a prayer
Yesterday I had breakfast with the guys from church. During the meal, Pastor Karl reminded us that "Mens' Sunday" is coming up and we needed to be thinking about the service and who was going to do what. He also mentioned that one of us or some of us together would be responsible for giving the sermon.
I kind of thought about that as I left the restaurant and throughout the day, but then the excitement of going to a football game, and then coming home and watching the second half of the Utah-BYU game kind of pushed it to the back of my mind, until...
I was saying my nightly prayers and it came to me to ask God if it would be in his good and perfect will for me, that could I be the one to give the sermon? I wasn't going to volunteer or ask Pastor Karl. Yes it's something I'd really like to do, but I wouldn't want to unless God thought I was going to do a good job for His glory. That's why I asked Him.
This morning, Pastor Karl after the service told me he needed to talk to me. When we had a minute, he took me aside and asked me to do just that. I told him that I'd actually prayed about it last night and he just chuckled. God does work in my life, and this is just one more very tangible thing to prove He is the great I AM and He does answer prayers.
I'm so humbled, but more than that, I'm hoping it's just the reason you'll need to come to church. Surely that's gotta be something you'd want to see. I'm telling you folks, the promises of Christ are real. That the Lord would trust me with this opportunity is just another testament that His forgiveness and His grace are real.
And as always, the glory belongs to God. He does use the most unlikely people to do His work. His ways aren't our ways; I'm convinced that this side of Glory we'll never understand them. That a sinner like me can go from where I was even just a year ago to being asked to share with the congregation is truly a testament to this. He explains this to us through the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 1:26-30 (NIV)
Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not may of you were wise by human standards; not may were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things--and the things that are not--to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before Him. It is because of this that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God--that is our righteousness, holiness, and redemption.
Praise God! Praise Jesus!
And please, pray for me, that the Lord will show me the topic to share and to give a good testimony to His awesome power and grace! He truly loves us!
I'll share more of the details when I have them.
