Follow me?

I had a great night at work tonight.  It was my last shift as a regular "fuelie"; a term of endearment for an aircraft fuels systems mechanic.  Me, I prefer the term "tank rat", but fuelie seems to be the one that sticks.  I got to work on the outside fuel dock which is something I really enjoy.  It's like working regular airplanes that fly soon, not just airplanes going through the overhaul process.  And then...

Our boss came out and sent us out to the flight line.  I was happy because I always liked working on the ramp.  I do like the hangar because I'm old and it gets cold outside in the winter but it was nice to see the Hill flight line for the first time as a civilian.  I still can start a -86 which put me one step ahead of the guys I was working with.  Some things you just don't forget.  I'm sure most of my Guard friends could start one in their sleep.

Anyway, as we were waiting for the airplane to be turned over to us, another C-130 landed and as it turned off the runway, it was met with a "follow me" truck.  If you've never seen one, the truck has a lighted sign in the bed that actually says to a pilot "follow me".  The driver of the truck leads the pilot to where he's to park the jet.

It was just about sunset and of course, it made me think of something else.  I've seen dozens of follow me trucks in my life.  But tonight, it made me think of the words of Jesus.  He told people, "Follow me". Some did.  One rich young man didn't because Jesus told him to sell everything he had and give the money to the poor and to follow Him.

The pilot did what he's been trained to do and followed the truck. And I smiled because I thought of my life stories in the Bible where the message was plain.  Follow me, Christ said.  I'm doing my best to do just that.

Church Sunday,  Eleven a.m.  25th & Jefferson.  I hope you'll either join me at mine, or join others at your own.  God bless y'all and as always, thanks for reading my blog!
