You don't put ketchup on a hot dog.

I like it that my church has a casual dress code.  But for the life of me, I can't not wear slacks and dress pants to church on Sunday.  It's a me thing, not a church thing.

Sometimes, we just get things stuck in our heads and that's the way it is.  I did wear a sport shirt today and haven't worn a tie in a while.  I don't think God minds.  Not a bit.  But I can't seem to get past this thing.

Here are some more things I cannot get past:

Putting ketchup on a hot dog.  Here's what goes on a hot dog:  Mustard, relish, onions, or chili with or without cheese, even a little sauerkraut every now and again.  But you do NOT put ketchup on a hot dog.

I have a great ketchup story, that doesn't involve hot dogs.  A man I worked with several years back went to a mexican restaurant with several of us for lunch one day.  He ordered a plate of burritos and the owner of the restaurant was proud of his food.  This man asked for a bottle of ketchup and I kid you not, covered the burritos with ketchup.  I thought the owner was going to kill him.

I have a lot of little things like that.  Every year at Thanksgiving time, there was a luncheon at the Guard base.  They'd make turkey dinner three days before turkey dinner.  Me, being me, never went to the lunch.  I paid every year.  I just didn't go.  I wasn't gonna eat turkey dinner three days before I was gonna eat turkey dinner.

It's a Coop thing.

We all have them.

Some little rules make no sense to me.  A fer instance is the rule that ladies should never wear white after Labor day.  Who made that rule?  More importantly, WHY did that rule come into existence?

Who knows?  What I do know is this.  I realize that in this world of self gratification, instant everything, and having to accept or at least tolerate things we never would have 40 years ago, someone has to stand up for something right.  So tonight, I'm reminding you, dear readers, that ketchup (and only Heinz) goes on french fries, burgers, the top of meat loaf sometimes (I prefer chili sauce though).  But never, ever, ever, does ketchup go on a hot dog!
