getting beaten by technology
I had to change a plane reservation today. The storm is causing havoc and I had to change planes in Chicago. The airline decided I could do this online and they wouldn't charge me extra because of the circumstances.
No big deal, or so I thought. I did try to call the airline and their recording basically told me, all our agents are busy. Don't call, go online. So I did.
The first time I tried to change the flight, the computer wanted an extra $400 to change the tickets. Nope. I had to cancel my boarding passes for the flight I already had so I had to re-do boarding passes. I decided to try it one more time, but accidentally clicked on the wrong date. I could slip my flight a day and still be where I'm going on the days I wanted to be there and my boss was kind enough to allow me to change days off. I was grateful for that. Unfortunately...
I didn't catch my boo-boo until I'd already used my free change my flight chance. To fix my boo-boo cost me $166. Ouch. That one hurt the wallet. I really don't have anyone to blame but myself, but I got confused with trying to follow the steps I needed to in order to fix my ticket without any additional charges. It's still a good deal for the flight, just not as good a deal as it was. Things happen, though.
I had a similar issue at the gas pump today. Again, I was going a little too fast and hit the wrong button on the keypad. I wanted to fill up and it's not like I ever have cash, but this mistake was just annoying. Hey, it happens.
My last bout with technology was leaving a comment on another blog about healthcare. I found a map that shows how many countries don't have some kind of government sponsored healthcare that I tried to be cute and include in a hyperlink. Of course the link didn't work because I must not have copied the html tag correctly. Again, it happens. I had to make another comment with the link. I should have done this in the first place but I was trying to be "tech savvy".
I like technology when it works. Most days, I win. Today, score one for High Tech.
