it's my job, man!
Today, I'm going to talk about talking about my faith. I did this a little bit on Friday and well, because it's Sunday, and because I want to, I'm going to do it again. But not in a preachy way.
I have to talk about my faith. If you follow this link, and read the article, you'll understand why. Over 78% of America identifies themselves as Christians (I read this in a study). That means 7.8 of every ten of my American readers (the blog is international! No Joke!) should be in absolute agreement with me and basically doing the same thing if you're a Christian, too. But I do understand why it makes people uncomfortable. People like me used to make ME uncomfortable and I try to remember that. I have a different perspective on why that was, too. Maybe if I wasn't doing things I shouldn't have been, I wouldn't have been so uncomfortable about it.
I think, too, that while a lot of us have our beliefs, we're uncomfortable about sharing them, and uncomfortable when people with great enthusiasm (aka yours truly) share theirs with us. I get that. There's a fine line between excitement and annoyance.
Annoyance doesn't get the message across.
I hope too that you've noticed something in me talking about my faith. I'm not preachy about it (well not overly preachy, anyway). I'm excited about it and just enjoy sharing the stories of things that happen in my life with my friends. There are times I judge, but only myself, and on those occasions I hope it's enough to stop just one person from doing the stupid thing I did. The blog is my way to witness to you that there in fact, is a God, that He loves you, and that his Son, Jesus died so that we may have eternal life. You know the Ten Commandments. You don't need me telling you what to do. You know right from wrong. I just invite you to church and share stories of my life. There's something special going on at my church and you'd have to be there to feel it. So I remind you again that services start at 11:00 at First Baptist in Ogden on 25th & Jefferson. If you're in the neighborhood, come join us.
I don't want to put people off by talking about my faith because if I do, then I'm not spreading the Good News. Please don't take it that way. Please take it the way it's intended. The things I share happen in my life and I couldn't make them up. I have a pretty interesting story to tell you about my weekend next week and if you take it in the spirit it's written in, you'll get a bit of a chuckle out of it. Maybe too, you'll find some inspiration. That's the reason for sharing what I do and I've said this before: What if by sharing what happens in my life, one of you that reads the blog comes to know Christ as Savior? Or just finds some inspiration at a trying time in your life? What if I stop someone from pissing away a marriage by helping them see what I did to mine? There's a reason for sharing!
And there's this from Isaiah 12:4 (KJV) And in that day shall ye say, Praise the LORD, call upon his name, declare his doings among the people, make mention that his name is exalted.
Remember, it's my job, man, to talk about my faith, and if the Pew Group is right, it's 78% of all y'all's job too!
It's the Great Commission!
On a more personal note, I want to publicly give glory to God and to Jesus for walking with me, for helping me with my decision (stay tuned, some really unusual stuff happened today)
