As good as it gets? (Revised)
I have to say the theme of today's blog isn't my own. I've borrowed it from one of my favorite radio programs, called "Running to Win" (you can listen online, here).
The topic of the program tonight was Jesus' first miracle of turning water into wine at a wedding. The story is in the book of John. While talking about this, Pastor Lutzer proffered this idea to the listening audience.
He said something like for those that aren't Christians, for those that don't believe on Jesus, they should enjoy this life, because it's as good as it's going to get. He further said for those that believe, this is as bad as it's ever going to be.
I get a lot out of this program. Just yesterday, the good Pastor talked about a man he heard witness and the story went something like this: The man was facing financial difficulties of all sorts and going through a divorce. He'd had some other troubles too. The man said throughout this period in his life, nobody ever called him crazy. It wasn't until he accepted Christ as his Savior started to tell people about Jesus that people started to question his sanity.
I had to laugh because, well... if the shoe fits....
I thought about that for a bit. It seems some things I do, from a worldly viewpoint, don't make sense to some. Funny, though, that my Christian friends don't seem to think my motivations are the least bit strange. It's, I suppose, which group of people you fit into. Is this life as good as it's going to get for you? Or is it as bad as it's going to be?
I needed to hear that tonight. I had a very frustrating evening. Hey, some days it goes like that. It hurts to type, my fingers are so sore from hanging a fuel cell in a wing. But I don't care! No matter how bad tonight was, I know there is relief and that there is something better waiting for me when this life is over. Until then, I find my joy in the most unusual of places and always remember to give thanks for my blessings, and my little trials as well.
That little nugget of information will stay with me for a long time. It's not bad knowing that this life is as bad as it'll ever be. There is a promise that will be fulfilled that greater things will come. Until then, Im just trying to do the best I can do and share these little stories with you in the hope that you too will come to know that this life is as bad as it'll ever be. (If you don't already!)
I wrote this blog at about 2:00 a.m., after I finished work. This morning, I opened my Bible for today's random(?) verse of encouragement and found two. One was for me, one is to share with y'all because it exactly illustrates what I wrote earlier today. The radio program was about Jesus turning water into wine and the Pastor was talking about saving the best for last, not the verse I'm sharing with you today. From Luke 16:19-31 (NIV), you will find the story of the rich man and Lazarus. I put the link in so you could read it for yourself at your computer. (One way or the other, friends, I'm gonna get you to at least look at some scripture.) The whole point of the story is that for Lazarus, this life on earth was as bad as it was going to be. For the rich man, it was as good as it was ever going to get.
God bless all y'all and have a great Friday. Oh yeah, don't forget it's red shirt Friday, in remembrance of those that serve and have served!

Thank-you so much for those words of encouragement with, "life is as good as it is going to get". Thank-you God, for the gift you gave us to choose a better future or not for ourselves. I am proud to say I am a believer and have a better life awaiting me some day! Have a great weekend my friend in Christ and here on this earth. =)
ReplyDeleteHey, Tami Jo! Glad to see you found something inspiring from the blog. And, as always, thanks for your prayers for Wendi and I.
