Ouch
Ouch. Ummph. Scrape, there goes some more skin. Poke. Ouch. Darn it, that hurts. The joys of doing my job. A big man in a little tiny hole, moving airplane parts in and out. Working over my head and laying on my side, wedged like a big piece of meat between a mounting bracket and a hydraulic line.
I'm sure the guy outside the tank last night was having a good laugh. The worst of the on the job injuries though was when I smacked my knee getting out of the hole so hard that I lost my breath and almost got sick to my stomach. THAT one left a mark. So did the sharp edge of the bracket I was having to work around, and finally on top of to finish the task.
There are some jobs on the jet that I'm just not built for. Tonight I feel like you do when you first start lifting weights or doing any kind of physical activity. I'm sore. My knees are sore, my ribs are sore. My hair hurts. My neck is stiff from being tied into a pretzel to install a brace in the tank. My shoulders are on fire and I have a knot in my back right in the middle of it where I can't reach it, of course.
Oh the joys of working on the fuel systems. I forgot to mention that by the time I was finished with the task, I smelled like purging oil. It's like wearing jet fuel perfume. The fuel makes the smell, the oil base keeps it with you until you remove the first two layers of skin in the shower. Purging fluid keeps the fuel vapors down so the airplanes are safe to work in the hangar. It keeps the "fuelies" as we're known from making too many friends outside the shop, if you follow me.
We stink.
We know it. Our families know it, too.
Such is life. It's a job and I'm glad I have it. Tonight I'm glad for a few hours of sick leave to recover from last night's injuries. The bang to the knee really hurts and when I sit too long it REALLY REALLY hurts. Hot water and Ibuprofen are on the menu tonight.
As is some really good Chicken Alfredo. It's not what I should be eating but the sauce was wonderfully tasty when I sampled it. It's gotta simmer for a bit, yet, but man, was it good!
In other news, I had the chance to speak to a VERY dear friend of mine. It's good that I have a Christian friend I can talk to about some of the things that happen in my life. We talked for an hour and I think we agree that I'm doing what I should be doing right now. I'm very blessed to have a friend like this who can just relate to what I'm going through and put personal feelings aside and talk about our Christian walk, our faith, and the tremendous blessings we receive from God's grace.
I'm doing what I should be doing right now. That's always comforting to hear from a friend.
Well, that's what I have for today. Pray for lots of things in Japan. Share your money. These people are going to need help. Lots of help. Right now, let's all pray for the safety of the nuclear power plants there. That's concern number one right now!
Tomorrow, I'm gonna go on about Jesus. I found a really great, but short video I'd like to share with you and talk about Him. If you're curious, look for "That's MY KING" on youtube.
I'll post the link in the morning. By the way, Happy Birthday Sis!
