Well, it's never boring
I just never know what's going to happen in my life.
I have a little story to tell. It's about social networking, being a Christian, and a whole bunch of things, I suppose, that I have nothing to do with.
About a month ago (almost to the day) I received an e-mail at my yahoo account notifying me of a friend request on Facebook. I politely declined the request because it was from a person who isn't a friend. Our lives may get to the point where we're going to have to be civil, but that's really about it from my point of view. Anyway, I declined it, politely, through what I thought was a very nice e-mail to a third person in this little story (sorry, no names but you can probably figure it out....)
For that, I was told I wasn't being very godly toward this person; that the person was reaching out to me so that we could find a way to get along, which is something we're going to have to do. I'm used to having my faith called into question by the third person involved with this. It happens whenever I don't act exactly like the third person thinks I should. OK, I'm all for learning and growing. If that was the intent, then I was in the wrong and I reached out to the person who sent the friend request.
I heard nothing until today, when I received yet another friend request from this person. This time, I accepted it. In the time it took me to send an e-mail to the third person involved in this mini-drama, the friend was gone. Not a friend anymore on facebook. I think it lasted for about, well, thirty minutes, if that.
I could make a whole bunch of assumptions about this, but honestly I don't know if the person clicked the wrong button, just had a change of heart, or what. I'm baffled, honestly, but hey, I tried to do my part. It at least gave me an opportunity to prove to the third person involved that I'm willing to do what's necessary to move things forward in a positive light.
For the more important news of the day:
I had a neat day. I officially joined my church and I'm very happy about that. I really feel like it's part of my home. I feel like I belong there. I wasn't the only one. A woman joined the church today as well, after being baptized. Another member was celebrating her 99th birthday. A young couple just had a baby and brought him to church for the first time today. We had a little bit of everything today and it was a blessing to be there.
I didn't quite make it to the BBQ last Sunday but I'm thinking today might be good to do up some steaks on the grill, so I'm off to see what I can find to make that happen. I hope this Sunday was an opportunity for you to rest and to take time to worship God.
Also, please, remember our mutual friends who have lost a loved one in your prayers this week.
