Sharing

I haven't been feeling very bloggy lately.  In fact, I've been feeling a bit like the tin man from the "Wizzard of Oz", no not needing a heart, but rusted stiff.  I thought it might be the weather, or attributable to folding myself up like a pretzel inside an airplane fuel tank.  I think, though, after lunch today, it might be attributable to the cholesterol pills.  Time for a visit to the doc again.

I started writing this post this morning but abandoned it.  I just wasn't feeling it, but I think it's kind of the message of the day.  As I was getting ready to leave for lunch the immigrant and I had a conversation about sharing what we have.  The scouts are having a food drive which what started the conversation.  As I drove to lunch, the radio program I had on was reading from a book and the topic was about sharing.  it was interesting that I'd started my day off with writing about it, then heard two examples of it in the span of about ten minutes.

I was thinking about the word "sharing" today; mostly it's dual meaning.  As with so many words in our language, the word "share" has more than one meaning.

As children, most of us were taught to "share" our toys.  Christians "share" their testimony of how they came to Christ.  I "share" with you by telling stories about my life.  We "share" when we give to charities and help others with our time and talents.  We all share in some way.

And then, too, sometimes, I think we expect our "share", too.  We expect our fair share.  We expect others to do their fair share of the work.  If you own stock in a company, you're a "shareholder".

I thought the dichotomy was interesting:  Do I want my share, or do I want to share?  Do I expect others to do their share?  Why do so many people share what they do?

We don't think much of this little word from day to day, I bet, but think of how important this little word is.  Share.

Maybe the important lesson for today is that we're all better off when this word is a verb in our lives, instead of a noun.  What do you have to share?  Can you share your time and talents with someone this week to make our community better?  Can you share something from the cupboard for a food drive?  As we prepare to remember our Lord's Resurrection, what better way to show your love for Him during this Lenten season than to take this one simple word and have it be the action verb in our lives.

Share!  Maybe by doing so, God can use what you share as the answer to someone else's prayer.
