giving thanks for this day!

The last post I wrote did not do justice to the day.  I'm hoping to rectify that right now.

Each and every day we have on Earth is a gift from God.  Maybe you don't see it that way, but I surely do.  We all have our good and bad days and nobody knows for sure what each day will bring.  There are, though, those extra special days God gives us that make life special.  Today was a day like that.

Our worship service was wonderful today.  I saw a young couple dedicate their new baby to the Lord.  It was so wonderful to see three generations of this family praying over this child.  We celebrated young people moving forward with graduations from high school on down.  One of the "think about it" moments our pastor shared with us hit home, as they often do.  I'd kind of mentioned I was almost in that place not twenty-four hours before.

It still causes me to stop and think sometimes that with everything that's going on in the world, with all the problems people have that are so much worse than mine, that our God, who created the universe , can find time in a day to do something in my life.  Think about that for a minute:  Christ died for your sins.  God loves you!  He created you.  He cares.  It's quite humbling when you think about that, don't you think?  He did a lot of stuff yesterday to remind me that I'm where I am because that's where He wants me to be.  And with the way things are going in the back yard, I think He wants us to plant a garden.  In my random Bible reading the other day, I found myself reading the verses of Jeremiah 29, beyond the popular verse 11.  In the passages after, Jeremiah tells the remnant of Israel in captivity to build houses and plant gardens.  They were gonna be there a while.  I think we might be too.  I don't know, but I take it on faith that's what the Lord has planned.

Things are going so well back there.  Everything is working.  We had a bit of a casualty in the raspberry patch, but only a half a plant.  Sadly, we would have had raspberries off of this one.  Next year we will have lots of raspberries.  I couldn't have planned that any better and I didn't do it.  The Lord gets all the credit and glory for it.

The food was terrific.  I didn't do anything special.  I just followed a recipe.  I used bottled BBQ sauce on the ribs and they were so tender.  The baked beans were my own recipe and turned out quite well.  I like making stuff for June because she takes such good care of me.  I'm blessed to have her company.  She, like so many other things in my life, is a blessing from God and I'm so thankful for her being here with me.  We are very thankful to the Lord for the wonderful meal we enjoyed.

I also enjoyed watching and listening to the ball game.  The Dodgers are the best team in MLB right now and they won a close game tonight, beating my second favorite NL team, the Cardinals.  Something else I found out today was that the Dodgers have a new first base coach.  His name is Davy Lopes and it's so neat to see him back in the blue.  I don't know if it's proper to thank God for our favorite sports teams doing well, but I thank Him for baseball in general.  I think that's appropriate and it just added to a wonderful day, which I know is a gift from Him.

I wanted to take a moment and just thank God for a wonderful day.  And to offer Him the praise and glory He deserves for such a gift!  I hope He blessed you, too.

Praise God!  Praise Jesus!
