The weed patch

Oh my, but the weeds are in full bloom at Lark Circle.  I was looking for my trimmer line today and couldn't find it but I got some weeding done.  I filled up a bag full of weeds and leaves from the south side of my house today.  I kind of forget about that part of the yard because you really can't see it from the street that well and I only see it when I mow.  I want to plant an herb garden there this year, though and the lilac bush and rose bush that are there are doing quite nicely this year.  It would be nice to add some fragrant herbs under the window, so that's kind of the plan.

After I got that as far as I could, I decided I needed to start to tackle the mess that used to be a raspberry patch.  I didn't do much with it last year and the raspberries got choked out by all the weeds.  I think we maybe had six raspberries last summer.  It wasn't much and I figured the plants were probably dead.

Um, not so much...  but the funniest thing has happened.  They started migrating away from where the weeds are.  I just came in from an hour's worth of weeding and I probably found twenty raspberry plants. We've never had that many before, and most of them were trying to escape where the raspberries were planted.  It's a real blessing because when I was at the Home Depot buying cleaning supplies the other day, I was eyeballing raspberry bushes because I wanted to replant the patch.  No need, now.

Weeding is gonna take a lot of time in the early stages of gardening this year, and it's gonna be a combination of pulling them when they're near vegetables and chemicals where they aren't.  The weeds are down from last year, but grass has taken their place and I honestly am not sure which is worse.  I have lots of roundup left over and I think I'm gonna need it.

I'm excited about the berries, though.  And surprised how they headed for the hills.  I guess life finds a way.  The thing was though that the plants were just kind of here and there with the grass and I had to be really careful with finding them and not stepping on them.  Judging by their size, these will be the canes that give us raspberries next year.  There really weren't any that would give us fruit this year because we pretty much ignored the garden.  There are a couple that are about a foot tall and maybe we'll get a few, but most of the raspberry plants I found today are just a couple of inches tall.  It'll take years to get a big patch growing again and lots and lots of weeding, but I have time.  I'm just happy I don't have to buy plants.

You never know how God will bless you.  I'm thankful for raspberries.  I enjoy eating them and I'm excited about having plants that are growing and spreading.  That's a great sign.  Also, our potatoes are starting to sprout, as well as our onions.  We're going to plant lettuce and things again sometime when Miss June has some time to spend.  Until then, it's gonna be full on weeding and prepping the back forty for the garden.

And I used my little experience today to remind myself that you just never know what you're going to find in life when you go looking for it.  Sometimes, I wonder if I only see what I want to;  that's been bothering me today for some reason.  But I remember that I can't help what I see.  It has to be there to be seen and what I need to remember that when I think this or that applies to my future or the path I ] think I'm going down. When I looked at the raspberry patch today, all I saw was weeds.  But as I began to carefully move the weeds back, a different view appeared.  The weeds were hiding tender plants.  Cleared away, it became evident what they were and where they were.
