the coolest thing(s) happened to me today
Hey gang!
I was helping my mom for the last couple of days so I was someplace where I shouldn't have normally been. You've heard the start of these stories. Here's today's.
I have a friend from the Guard who I haven't seen in a very long time. I love the guy, I really do. He's a great man, has four of the neatest kids you'll ever meet. My mom lives in Taylorsville so I was down that way, and during the project we had to go to Lowe's out in Jordan Landing. My friend lives near there and as I was sitting at the stoplight yesterday, I was thinking to myself that I hadn't seen him for a very long time and that I ought to call him.
I had to run back to Lowe's today and while at the stoplight at Bangerter & 70th, I was thinking of my friend again. Then I looked out the passenger window and there he was! That's no word of a lie, either. I have a witness. My sis was in the truck with me! I had about two seconds to talk to him before the light turned green, but I knew he lived just a short distance from where I was going and I wasn't in a particular hurry to get there, so I followed him to his house. A Utah driver actually let me in behind him so I wouldn't get lost. That, in itself is some sort of novelty.
My friend was just bringing his kids back from a church youth event. He only had his boys but they're fine boys and getting so BIG! I haven't seen the kids for a couple of years, now. I need to get to Salt Lake more. I'm missing out on a lot. We talked for just a few minutes, hugged a couple of times and in a couple of weeks, if he's home, I'm planning on stopping by (after I call first) for a visit. A real visit. He's a friend that, no matter how long it's been, it's just like it was last week.
God gives us little gifts and random(?) things like this happen all the time to me. I'm so very blessed to see my friend. And I'm so very grateful to a loving God for arranging that little thing. You know I don't believe in coincidence, but I certainly do believe in providences that God gives to us every day.
Tonight, God gave me an even bigger blessing. I've read the book of Esther several times. I'm following a "Bible in a year" plan and yesterday's, today's and tomorrow's readings are from Esther. It's a great story and y'all should read the whole thing. It's short.
Anyway, I never could understand what God was trying to tell me through reading this as often as I seemed to. I understood the precepts, but tonight, as I could look back on the way things have started to turn around, it suddenly made a lot of sense. Understanding is a wonderful gift from God, too. He's so good to me and I surely want to give him praise, honor and glory for this wonderful day!
Oh, one more thing; on the way home, as I passed under the overpass in Farmington that crosses Highway 89, the red plastic cups arranged in the chain link fence formed the following message:
"Welcome home Max".
